INTENT

Teaching computing in our curriculum is essential as it equips our children with vital skills for the digital age, preparing them for future careers in a technology-driven world. By engaging with concepts such as coding, problem-solving, and data management, our children develop critical thinking and creativity, which are fundamental in a large number of industries. Moreover, fostering a strong foundation in computing enables them to become not just users of technology, but innovators who can create solutions to real-world problems. Ultimately, our goal is to nurture Truly Great digital leaders who possess both technical expertise and the ability to collaborate effectively, thereby contributing meaningfully to society and the evolving job market.

Our Core Values provide the platform on which we have built our curriculum offer at Barnburgh Primary Academy. Our computing curriculum is underpinned by our Core Values in the following ways;

We teach children to show courage in computing lessons by encouraging them to experiment with new technologies and programming languages, fostering a mindset that embraces trial and error.

We teach children to show perseverance in computing lessons by encouraging them to tackle challenging coding problems and projects, emphasising the importance of persistence in overcoming obstacles.

We teach children to show respect in computing lessons by promoting collaboration and teamwork, encouraging them to listen to each other's ideas and provide constructive feedback. Additionally, discussing the importance of digital citizenship and responsible online behaviour helps them understand the impact of their actions on others while fostering a culture of kindness and inclusivity in the classroom.

We teach children to show ambition in computing lessons by encouraging them to set personal goals for their projects, such as learning advanced coding skills or creating innovative applications. By introducing them to role models in the tech industry and providing opportunities for them to explore new technologies, we inspire a mindset that drives them to pursue their interests and strive for excellence in their work.

We teach children to show independence in computing lessons by encouraging them to take ownership of their projects, allowing them to select topics, tools, and methods to explore. Providing opportunities for self-directed learning, such as exploration of online resources or design challenges, empowers them to solve problems and make decisions confidently, fostering a sense of autonomy in their coding journey.
